What most disturbed me about this book was the violence. Not overt violence but psychological, sexual and self-inflicted violence. This swirl of violence has been festering in this small Missouri town and is literally passed down by each generation, Camille’s included. But now this violence has manifest itself in the murder of two girls and this small town can no longer keep its secrets to itself. As Camille sifts through the circumstances of both murders she is also forced to confront her past and her own role in the cycle and whether or not she can stop it before it is too late.
Gillian Flynn is a confronting, shocking and compelling writer. She has something important to say with her crime novels and she makes damn sure you don’t miss it.
