John Scalzi’s UNLOCKED: An Oral History of Haden’s Syndrome
Initially thought to be a new strain of bird flu it soon becomes apparent this is a virus never seen before. Indiscriminately infecting young and old, healthy and frail it spreads on at an unprecedented scale. It’s affects are also indiscriminate with some people surviving, others passing away and another group paralyzed within in their minds.
When the President of the United States’ wife falls ill and becomes “locked-in” the whole country is mobilised into finding a cure. And in Scalzi’s brilliantly insightful and original way the cure and it’s ramifications will blow your mind.
Scalzi exploits the oral history format with aplomb. Recounting events from a wide array of points of view bringing with it humour, satire and insight. I can’t wait to see what he does with Lock In, especially after getting a preview of the first chapter.
